The root formula supported improvements in muscle strength, cardiorespiratory endurance, and quality of life measures, as well as supporting hormonal balance in men and women.

Nutriventia announced the publication of a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial demonstrating that its sustained-release ashwagandha root extract, Ashwanova, significantly improves muscle strength, cardiorespiratory endurance, and quality of life in recreationally active healthy adults. The study was published in Frontiers in Nutrition.

The 90-day trial evaluated 83 healthy participants (aged 25–50 years) engaged in progressive resistance training. Participants received either Ashwanova 300 mg daily or placebo, with assessments taken at baseline, day 30, day 60 and day 90.

Rajat Mittal Shah, co-founder and executive director, reported that statistically significant differences in certain outcomes were observed as early as day 30 and sustained through day 90. “This study takes Ashwanova beyond stress and wellness support into active performance. It is rare for a single ingredient to demonstrate statistically significant improvements in strength, endurance and quality of life in healthy adults within the same trial, alongside a favorable safety profile. That breadth of evidence is what sets these findings apart.”

Outcomes

  • Compared with placebo, the Ashwanova group achieved a statistically significant 2.1-fold improvement in bench press strength (1-RM) by day 30.
  • Ashwanova demonstrated a 1.5-fold greater improvement in cardiorespiratory endurance as early as day 30 compared to placebo, indicating enhanced aerobic capacity to support sustained training performance.
  • Ashwanova demonstrated statistically significant improvements in total testosterone (+38.47% greater increase than placebo), free testosterone (+51.01%), and bioavailable testosterone (+52.42%) over 90 days compared to baseline, while the placebo group showed no meaningful changes, demonstrating support of healthy hormonal balance during strength training.
  • The researchers also noted that women experienced a healthy androgen balance during resistance training.
  • Participants in the Ashwanova group demonstrated significantly greater improvements in physical functioning measures (3.74-fold greater than placebo) and mental health and emotional well-being (2.65-fold), based on the SF-12 assessment.
  • All reported adverse events mild and transient in nature.
